OUR VALUES

New City Imphal stands with all churches in affirming the Apostle’s Creed and with the Protestant and evangelical churches in the Reformed-Baptist tradition deeply committed to renewing our faith in the gospel of Christ and to reforming our ministry practices to conform fully to the Scriptures.

At New City Imphal these basic guiding values can be broken down into three: GOSPEL, COMMUNITY and CITY POSITIVE. We want these values to define us. We won’t always embody them perfectly but we repent and move in that direction.

We value the Gospel

The gospel tells us that our root sin is not just failing in our obedience of God but relying on our obedience to save us. Therefore, the gospel is a “third way”, neither religion or irreligion. The religious person may say, “I am doing the right things that God commands” and the irreligious person may say, “I decide what is right and wrong for myself”. But both ways reject as Savior (though they may revere him as Example or Helper). Both ways are strategies of self-salvation – both actually keep control of their own lives. So the gospel keeps us from legalism and moralism on the one hand and from hedonism and relativism on the other.

The gospel is not just the way to enter the kingdom but is the way to address every problem and is the way to grow at every step. It affects the way we do everything at NCI – how we relate to people and work, how we motivate people, how we worship, how we take criticism. Therefore the gospel changes everything. It is “the power of God for salvation” (Romans 1:16) and the transforming power that we are seeking for our people and city.

We value the Community

NCI community is consists of those who have repented and believed and have a common experience of the gospel, of people who deliberately share life together and is a spirit-filled community, an alternative society that models distinctive way to do everything in life, whose visible behavior shines out and shows the world the glory of God (Matthew 5:14).

We are not a church of programs but a church of people and we invest in people. Primarily we do this through our City Groups. We believe that as the gospel transforms our hearts we begin to grow in showing Jesus to our community. We are a community of sinners in need of a savior. We are a community of broken people who are learning to trust. While we live in a very disconnected city and our lives are incredibly and increasingly fragmented, we believe that as we are called into community, we will see our lives change and be renewed by the gospel through the lives of others.

CITY GROUP
We all live busy lives and work really hard making it incredibly difficult to find and foster meaningful relationships. City Group is a place for fellowship and friendship. It is a place where the community is nurtured, equipped, and released to serve God in the City. It's a place where people grow in their knowledge of God and their life witness.

We value the City Positive

As the gospel transforms our own lives, we, as members of Christ’s body, have the opportunity to see Jesus’ Kingdom come. This happens as we bring people to Jesus and as we radically serve our city and loves our neighbors. We express this value through promoting and engaging in the arts and culture; encouraging, supporting, volunteering and teaching about the importance of justice and mercy ministries in our city and in our nation; and committing to reproduce more church plants in and around Imphal and India as the Lord leads us in prayer and resources.

At New City Imphal, evangelism is not simply one department of ministry but it permeates everything we do. So we seek to equip and motivate every member into an evangelistic lifestyle. We aim to show that the gospel lifts up the poor and reconciles the castes, classes and tribes who otherwise could not be able to live together. We also want to call our people to theological reflection, to work with excellence in their professional fields, to collaboration and networking of Christians within vocations and for respect and service to the whole world through their work. In other words, we’re not just for personal healing and help, but for social healing and for cultural renewal.

Thoujal Khunai Fellowship
Thoujal Khunai Fellowship (TKF) translated as Grace Community is a very young church plant of NCI. It is primarily a Manipuri speaking believers’ community. This new beginning is not just the result of human effort, but a testament to God’s faithfulness, His glorious call and purpose for this community. We honour the dedication, prayers, and sacrifices that have gone into making this vision a reality.

TKF is committed to building a Gospel-centred Church. We believe in building a healthy community who will make positive impact in their family, society, and the city. It is our vision to build a diverse multi-ethnic Church who are comfortable with the Manipuri language. Currently, we meet at Malom every Sunday 10:30am. By His grace, we have completed our eight months journey with over thirty regular members. We also have two Bible Study Groups that meet on Thursdays and Saturdays.

As a new community, there are different areas that needs improvement. We urge your continual prayer and support in anyways the Spirit lead you. We also thank God Almighty for opening a new home for us to enjoy Him and enjoy the fellowship of His church.
City Positive Initiative Project
At New City Imphal, we believe as Christ’s Church we are a preview, a model, of the fullness of God’s coming Kingdom. While we still live in a broken world, we know that Jesus is renewing all things through his Church as it proclaims the Word and serves the world through good deeds. As the gospel transforms our own lives, we, as members of Christ’s body, have the opportunity to see Jesus’ Kingdom come. This happens as we bring people to Jesus and as we radically serve our city and love our neighbors. We express this value through promoting and engaging in the arts and culture; encouraging, supporting, volunteering and teaching about the importance of justice and mercy ministries in our city and in our nation.

We aim to show that the gospel lifts up the poor and reconciles the castes, classes and tribes who otherwise could not be able to live together. In other words, we’re not just for personal healing and help, but for social healing and for cultural renewal. With that vision and value, we have a project called
“Rebuild Manipur”.

Manipur has suffered a lot of damage ever since the ethnic clash erupted in May 2023. Over 200+ people have lost their lives, and more than 60,000 people have been displaced. Thousands of homes, businesses, villages, and places of worship have been burned, attacked, and vandalized. The Internally Displaced People have been living in cramped shelters since May 2023. There is no sight of an end to this conflict anytime soon. The state has been greatly devastated – emotional, mental, physical, spiritual, economy, social, political.

Rebuild Manipur
In our strive to be a Gospel-Centered Church, we seek shalom for the city. One of the ways we do this is by serving the city in whatever capacity we can. So, during this difficult time in our state, by the grace of God and the limited resources we have, we were able to reach out to several Relief Camps located in the worst hit six districts across the state. We distributed dry ration kits that include all essential household items such as rice, dal, cooking oil, vegetables, potatoes, tea leaves, sugar, salt, etc., and other essentials. We also distributed medicines, sanitary pads, diapers for children, formula milk, mattresses, blankets, lamps, and clothes. To some of the most vulnerable, we extended financial aid. In some camps, we were able to share meals, listen to their stories, and prayerfully encourage one another. The sufferings of our people are unimaginable, and no words can ever do justice to their pain and devastation.

With this in mind, we started the New City Imphal - City Positive Project, “Rebuild Manipur” - an initiative aimed at serving the City by improving employment opportunities, and helping in uplifting the burden of unemployment faced by Internally displaced people in Manipur.

Rebuild Manipur seeks to play a role in addressing these challenges by creating new avenues for economic development, boosting small-scale industries, and equipping individuals with skills needed to thrive in today’s competitive job market. By improving employment opportunities, we aim to empower individuals to achieve their fullest potential, reduce poverty, and contribute to a thriving local economy.
